MACINTOSH AND SYSTEM SOFTWARE ISSUES
• If you have selected a small font cache size in the ATM Control Panel, a dialog may appear stating that ATM cannot render text due to a low cache size. To ensure that all characters are rendered correctly increase the cache size and reboot your system. An ATM Font Cache of 256k or higher is recommended when using multiple master fonts.
• If you are experiencing problems booting with system 7.1, Suitcase II, Adobe Type Reunion and ATM, move Suitcase so it is loose in the System folder (i.e., not in any folder within the System Folder) to load after ATM. Contact Fifth Generation for an upgrade to Suitcase 2.1.3.
-----------------
ATM 3.6.1 CONTROL PANEL ISSUES
• ATM 3.6.1 can be turned on and off without rebooting your system. However, other options (Preserving Character Shapes vs. Line Spacing and the Substitution check box) won’t be active until you reboot your system.
-----------------
PRINTING ISSUES
• Printing a document with multiple master fonts (such as those used in SuperATM) to an imagesetter containing older versions of Kodak's Precision causes errors. Please call Kodak to obtain a software fix for Precision, or upgrade to the latest version of Precision.
Adobe has a tech note regarding this issue. Included on the tech note is some PostScript code for the patch. Use this if the patch from Kodak does not work. Call FaxBack (800.235.0078) and request document 4163.
• The version of PostScript in the Apple Personal LaserWriter NT and the Hewlett Packard level 1 PostScript cartridge do not support multiple master technology.
Apple Computer has an upgrade kit for the Personal LaserWriter NT to the Personal LaserWriter NTR. The Personal LaserWriter NTR upgrade fixes the compatibility problem between multiple master typefaces and the Personal LaserWriter NT printer. Please contact your authorized Apple dealer for more information concerning availability of this upgrade.
The H.P. Level 1 PostScript cartridge cannot be upgraded for multiple master support in H.P. LaserJet II printers. A PostScript Level 2 cartridge, that is compatible with multiple master typefaces, is available for later model H.P. Printers.
The Tektronics Phaser II series of printers from may have problems printing multiple master fonts. Tektronics has created a small PS file that can be downloaded to fix the problem. Call Fax Request Line.(800.235.0078) and request document 4108.

Installation Tips
Possible problems when installing:
Problem After installing and restarting you get the message “Adobe Type Manager requires more memory or additional software resources.”
Solution ATM is unable to load either because there is not enough memory or ATM is unable to find the ~ATM 68000 or ~ATM 68020/030/040 file because it is missing, damaged, or another init is preventing it from being used. Usually the problem is due to an init conflict. See the Known INIT Conflicts section for more information.
------------------------
Known Init conflicts:
A common troubleshooting procedure used in this section is changing the load order of inits, control panels and extensions. To make a conflicting item load after ATM in system 7, move the conflicting item from either the extensions, or control panels folder so it floats loose in the System Folder. This is accomplished by double–clicking the System Folder to open it. Then drag the conflicting item from its current folder to the open window of the System Folder. System 6 users can change the loading order by changing the names of the files.
NOTE: The message, ‘Adobe Type Manager requires more memory or additional software resources,’ has been abbreviated as ‘memory/resources error.’
DecNet/Mac, part of Dec PathWorks networking
Causes memory/resource error at bootup.
Solution is to move DecNet/Mac init out of Extensions. Folder to System Folder so it loads after ATM. Delete ATM control panel file and driver sitting loose in System Folder and reinstall them from installation diskettes.
SpaceSaver from Aladdin
Causes ATM bus error at bootup.
Solution is to open SpaceSaver control panel file and if idle time compression is turned on, change thermometer bar status display to other options. Aladdin is aware of the problem and is working on a solution. Contact Aladdin for an upgrade.
SerialWay 1.0.3
Causes memory/resources error at bootup.
Solution is to move SerialWay to loose in System Folder so it loads after ATM.
Mirror from Central Point
Causes memory/resources error at bootup.
Solution is to move Mirror to loose in System Folder so it loads after ATM.
FileSaver 2.0 from Norton utilities
Causes bus error at bootup.
Solution is to open FileSaver control panel and uncheck all the boxes, then recheck them and restart. Other option is to move FileSaver 2.0 to loose in System Folder so it loads after ATM. This only occurs if you have upgraded from version 1.5 to version 2.
TrashAlias 1.0
Causes general system error at bootup.
Solution is to remove TrashAlias from system completely.
Spelling-CoachPro
Causes Mac to freeze when choosing shutdown or restart, and may corrupt ATM driver file.
Solution is to move Spelling-CoachPro so that it is loose in System Folder, trash ATM driver, reinstall driver, and restart. Upgrade CoachPro to version 3.0.1
FileGuard 2.7
Causes memory/resource error at bootup.
Try moving FileGuard so that it is loose in System Folder loading after ATM. This may help but out testing has been erratic. Contact the makers of FileGuard for more information.
MediaVisions PAS16
Causes memory/resource error at bootup.
Solution is to move PAS16 to loose in System Folder so it loads after ATM.
EasyOpen 1.0.1
Causes ATM bus error at bootup
Solution is to move EasyOpen to loose in System Folder so it loads after ATM.

APPLICATION ISSUES
• QuarkXPress 3.0 does not display text correctly when a user zooms in and out of a text block. This has been fixed in QuarkXPress 3.1.
• Aldus FreeHand 3.0 will not create multiple master fonts to paths. This has been fixed in Aldus FreeHand 3.1. When using multiple master fonts in Aldus FreeHand 3.1, you will find that text blends together. This seems to happen on-screen not when printing.
• Microsoft Word 4.00D
For best spacing when printing to the ImageWriter, you should update Word to version 4.00D and turn on the Fractional Widths option in the Page Setup dialog box under the File menu. Word 4.00D supports fractional widths on the ImageWriter; earlier versions did not.
• Fontastic Plus
Bitmapped fonts cannot be edited while ATM is on.
• Altsys Fontographer (and other outline font editors)
Do not edit outline fonts while ATM is on.
• Fontographer 3.1 or earlier
Some fonts created by Fontographer 3.1 or earlier may not work with ATM (i.e., they continue to look jaggy) or some characters may be clipped. Contact Altsys Corp.
• ImageClub TypeVendor
The TypeVendor init must load after ATM. This can be done by adding a tilde (~) to the beginning of the TypeVendor init name (i.e., ~TypeVendor) and re-starting your Macintosh.
• Underline text in TypeAlign
The underline itself may not print on PostScript printers.
• If you are installing multiple master fonts in System 6.x we recommend using Font/DA Mover 4.1.
